Le Grand-Bornand Property new fully-detached chalets in Le Grand-Bornand/Chinaillon
The development is located at 1300m and surrounded by trees, bordered by a mountain stream and near a bus stop to take you to the lifts. Each chalet offers excellent views and is south -facing.
It is accessible by car at all times, although chains would be advisable if snow is actually falling. It is also only a short walk to local bars, sport shops and creperie. This new development is made of traditional fully-detached chalets, each on its plot of land for more privacy. The chalets have been built faithfully to the ‘Bornandine’ style of architecture; the chalets bring together quality and refinement by use of the noble materials- wood, stone and ‘tavaillons’.

.In the heart of the Aravis Mountain range in the Haute Savoie, perfectly located between Mont Blanc, Lake Annecy and Switzerland, Le Grand-Bornand offers the best of the Alps.
Not only is Le Grand-Bornand a tourist destination in the summer as well as winter, it is also a truly charming village where Mother Nature has done her very best. The Aravis Mountains, with their summit at 2750m, form the main backdrop to the village. The range is capped by the distinctive Pointe Percée from where forested mountain slopes, open to all, curve down towards the village.
The resort is divided in to two parts: Le Grand-Bornand Village is, at 1000 metres, a typical Savoyard village with a market square and “grenette”, a traditionally roofed market hall, its church and shops. The splendid Bouchet valley stretches away behind… a favourite cross country ski area.
4 miles further up, at 1300 metres and on the road to Col de la Colombiere, Le Grand-Bornand - Chinaillon is the other part of the resort, where most of the ski runs begin and here you will find the perfect location for a peaceful holiday. The old part of Chinaillon with its chapel, all of which is very well preserved and dates back to the 17th century presents an authentic picture card view from the balcony of Haute Savoie at its best.
There are more than four hundred of these beautiful authentic chalets spread throughout the village, often dating up to three hundred years old. So, how do you recognise a Grand Bornand chalet? By its typical architectural details such as the “pointe d’ane”- the master beam in the building; the “solaret” - a light and airy loft; and the “credence”- a kitchen cupboard built into the wall, or a small barn right next to the main house where the “goodies” were kept. Faced in wood, with covered balconies and warm interiors, these chalets are considered to be the true jewels of the alpine heritage.
Winter season
Le Grand Bornand is a long established alpine winter sports village which has preserved its character and traditions well. Tourism has been developed slowly and carefully over the past few years thereby maintaining the traditional character but providing some state of the art skiing facilities with modern high speed chairlifts and snow making on many pistes. Snowboarding is increasing popular in the resort and a purpose built snowpark opened with jumps and halfpipes galore in 2005. This has made the area a fantastic all round ski resort with plenty of skiing and riding for all abilities.
We have a perfect ski-in ski-out and drive-in drive-out location on the ‘piste des Outalays’. The road is cleared but chains are advisable in snowy periods.
Skiing
The skiing in Grand Bornand is well designed, fully linked and suitable for all levels of skiers. It is part of the Aravis ski area which links the resorts of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz and offers over 220km of downhill piste and 60km of cross country skiing. It constitutes part of the bid for the winter Olympics from Annecy for 2018 and has bred a number of Olympic medalists over the years.
Beginners will find the gentle green runs a confidence building debut before graduating to blue runs and access to all areas of the resort. For more advanced skiers there are a good range of red runs a few of which are never bashed giving you the opportunity to try bumps and/or deep snow without having to leave the safety of a marked run. The three black runs in Chinaillon (and many in La Clusaz) are seriously steep and pose a challenge for those looking for one! There are also numerous opportunities for off-piste skiing. Night-time skiing takes place on Tuesdays under floodlights on an easy slope located wthin 400 yards of the chalet.
Ski passes can be bought by the day, the week, 10 day flexi or the season. Day passes are purchased in the numerous "Caisses" at the bottom of the pistes and you can have any unused portion of your time credited, which earns you a discount the next time you buy a ticket. Under 5’s and over 75’s ski for free and there are discounts for other age groups as well.
There are ski shops close by which have all have the latest equipment available for rental or purchase at any level. There is a secure ski locker on the ground floor of the chalet. High quality tuition is available for all types of alpine skiing and snowboarding. If you are an adult beginner we recommend that you take private lessons, as you will learn much faster. In 2007, private lessons cost around €30/hour for 1 or 2 people.
Summer season
For summer visitors the range of activities is endless. There is walking for all levels of fitness directly from the Chalet door, mountain biking is popular in the area along with parapenting, via ferata, rock climbing, swimming, horse riding and golf. A chair lift regularly operates from above the chalet throughout the summer accessing Mont Lachat. Taking your mountain bike up with you is possible and allows an enjoyable descent back to Le Chinaillon/ Le Grand Bornand of between 2 and 7 miles approximately.
Le Grand Bornand is where most of the organised summer activities take place, based around the area by the swimming pool complex. Information and booking of activities canbe done at the Tourist Office in the town square.English speaking assistants are available. There is a good range of shops including a small well stocked supermarket and some some quality craft/gift shops in Chinaillon and more still in Grand Bornand including a weekly market on Wednesday mornings. We are located in the quiet hamlet of Le Chinaillon which is on a high, sunny plateau surrounded by spectacular views. It is quiet and has a pleasant rural feel to it. There is a Tourist Office opposite the supermarket which also has English-speaking assistants, and next door is the cinema.
Hiking:
There are numerous mountain paths and routes throughout and across the mountains. Some of the lifts continue to run for those who prefer to only walk down hill and many mountain restaurants remain open throughout the summer. Many routes can be accessed directly from the front door- the beauty, flora and fauna are amazing. As is the peace, tranquilty and fresh clean air.
Swimming:
There is a large outdoor pool complex in Le Grand Bornand which includes a water slide, a paddling pool with a water fountain and a proper swimming pool.. There is also a pool in La Clusaz and you must try swimming in the lake at Annecy- Talloires beach is beautiful.
Cycling:
The Tour De France often passes through in 2007 there was an overnight stop on Bastille day. There are Grimpee’s and other cycling events throughout the season not forgetting the mountain biking trails!
